Communities & Organizations Crafty Tip

Easy Glass Painting Project No.1: Candle holder

Supplies Needed:

  • Empty jam jar

  • Sellotape

  • Glass paints and Glass paint relief liner (Can be found in an arts, crafts or stationery shop)

  • Simple pattern or image on paper that fits inside the jar - draw one yourself or cut one out from a magazine

  • Paint Brush

  • Water container

Directions:

1. Wash out an old jar and dry it fully

2. Place your paper image inside the jar, with the pattern/ image showing inside, pushed against the glass. Fill the jar with scrunched up paper or tissue paper to keep it still

3. Rest the jar, slightly slanted, inside the roll of sellotape (flat on table) so that it is still and you can paint onto it easily. Trace the outline of the pattern/ image with the relief liner. Leave it to dry for half an hour.

4. Fill the shapes created by the relief liner with the paint.

5. Leave it to dry for an hour.

6. Light a candle inside it and see your pattern/ image lit up.
