Crochet patterns almost always seem overwhelming when you read them. It is much easier to simply take up your hook and yarn and give it a try without worrying about doing it right. Quite often, I end up straying slightly from the pattern and am still able to come up with something nice and as a bonus the finished piece is more unique.
