Bob’s Woodcrafts

From the age of five, Bob loved working with scraps of wood. Those early not-so-pretty creations led to a life long passion of creating quality handmade items at a fair value. Visit my site to see my line of heirloom quality handcrafted wooden boxes, jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes, valets, recipe boxes, humidors, crosses, urns, gifts and more.

Woodworking Crafty Tip
When applying the 1st coat of a hand-rubbed oil finish, while the finish is wet, lightly sand it with 400 grit wet-dry sandpaper. Wipe off the excess finish and allow to dry. This fills the pores of the wood, and leaves a silky smooth surface for further coats of oil.

Wood Finishing Crafty Tip
When using lemon oil as a wood finish be sure to saturate the piece for about 5 minutes and then clean off with a rag. If you want to apply a lacquer you can do it when the piece is completely dry.

Allan's Art - Wood Turning & Woodcraft

Handcrafted from sustainable hard and softwoods, each of my wood items are one of a kind. The natural grain lines and variety of woods I use make it impossible for any two items to be exactly alike. I love working with wood and often look for "flawed" pieces with character and incorporate these natural aspects of the wood into my pieces. Most pieces are finished with several coats of Danish oil or sanding sealer. Looking for a very specific piece? Just contact me with the requirements and together we'll make your concept come to life.

Woodturning Crafty Tip
It might seem obvious, but always use sharp tools for woodturning. The trick is paying attention to your tool while you are turning your project. You may have to sharpen your tools several times - I sharpen my bowl gouge at least four times while making my bowls. I recommend anyone who plans on doing a lot of turning work to invest in an electric grinder - they make sharpening quick and easy so you can get back to work quickly.
