Chain Maile Artisan Jewelry
The jewelry artists featured here have made beautiful pieces from chain maile. Mail was first used around 300BC. It was typically used as armor and was quite effective at protecting the wearing against slashing or stabbing blows from swords and daggers. Today, butchers and woodworkers sometimes use mail aprons and gloves to protect themselves from cuts.
Today chainmail is used in reenactments, decorative pieces and in jewelry making. The artists listed here are primarily crafting jewelry from mail but some also offer decorative giftware and clothing.
All of the chainmaille jewelry artists have shared with us their websites, an example of their work as well as their favorite jewelry-making tips. Please forgive my using so many variants in spelling but this was done to ensure that anyone searching for jewelry made of mail can find what they are looking for. |

Jewelry Cleaning Crafty Tip
Looking for a cheap and easy silver, copper, or other tarnishable metals cleaner? Try ketchup. Don't try this on items that have beads like pearls or permeable pendants, though. The acid from the tomato is a very nice cleaner, and it's readily available most anywhere you shop!
