Crafty Tip

Working with headpins on rings or bracelets with loops:

If you are right handed start adding beads from the back loop and work left to right towards the front. If you are left handed you will want to work right to left. This will keep you from having to work over beads already in place, plus your beads will lie back keeping them out of your way.

Crafty Tip

Choosing the correct needle for the fabric and thread type is very important. You should change your needle no less than every 20 hours of actual sewing time. Using a dull needle could cause damage to your hook and/or bobbin assembly as well as cause less than perfect stitches in your work.

Crafty Tip

When you use bigger beads of 30mm or above for making jewelry and necklaces, add small beads of around 10mm to make it look more charming. Don't ever add two 30mm bead in a single string.

While using bigger beads you should always use charming thick thread which can been seen from a distance, this will add glory to shape. Don't just use thin string which can't been seen.

Cheers!

Crafty Tip

When making a Sock Monkey one of the most important features is the mouth. I find that positioning the mouth piece and pining the bottom half before sewing helps keep it centered and helps sculpt the shape of the mouth. In this way you can make the Sock Monkey have an upturned smile, with any style heel.

Crafty Tip

Cross Stitch Needles: You will need a tapestry needle or one that is labeled for the count of cross stitch fabric you wish to use. Tapestry needles have a blunt end and a large eye for easier threading. Keep an extra needle in case the first one breaks or bends. There are nickel, gold and platinum plated needles. The gold and platinum needles last longer and slide easier than the traditional nickel plated needle. If you are a serious cross stitcher, you may want to consider gold or platinum.

Crafty Tip

Free Project - Making a scarf from scrap yarn.

Materials: Water soluble stabilizer, lots of scrap yarns, ribbons, thread.

Cut water soluble stabilizer in strips as wide and long as you want your scarf. Lay one strip down and layer with pieces of yarn, ribbon, etc. Make it fairly thick and completely cover the stabilizer. Lay second piece of stabilizer on top and pin together.

Sew a grid over the entire stabilizer, vertical and horizontal about an inch apart. Using a sewing machine is recommended.

When finished, rinse in cool water until stabilizer is gone. Add fringe if desired....You have a scarf that cost very little and will get many compliments.
