Crafty Tip

Anything can be materials for crafts. You only need your inspiration and enthusiasm. Got an old-fashioned cloth? You can change it into a one of a kind craft. There's no worthless things in the world.

Crafty Tip

Use a glue stick to tack down a seam allowance for a curved piece that will be appliqued. Machine stitch just outside of the curve, fold the fabric under at the seam and tack down with the glue to create a nice crisp edge.

Sherri's Special Things
Beautiful beaded macrame jewelry, especially watches and bracelets. Tiny beads and tiny threads are carefully knotted and woven into lovely jewelry that is nothing like the macrame of old.

Crafty Tip

Use a no-fray liquid (found at fabric shops) on the ends of macrame cord to keep the ends from fraying! It dries fairly hard and will make it much easier to thread on tiny seed beads.

Crafty Tip

While découpage is a scissor-oriented craft and purists will tell you must cut out, it is OK to use paper punches, quilling strips and stickers to embellish your work. It is NOT advisable to use these for competition work because it is most often against the rules. Check the rules first. But as far as gifts or sale items are concerned, use them if you want.

Crafty Tip

You don't need anything for creating Macrame piece - only your hands, some yarn - and sometimes your imagination! Macrame is almost lost art but nowadays it become more and more popular.

When making knots with picots, covering your work surface with a piece of plaid fabric or lined paper will make it easier to create uniformly-sized loops.

Crafty Tip

If when shaping your finished piece, you find it won't lie flat or shape properly, carefully add a little heat (a hair dryer works well) and position the piece into the right shape. Be careful to not actually melt the plastic.

Crafty Tip

Cut off all your ‘starting and finishing’ threads as you finish EACH seam, this way you won’t end up getting them caught in your seams as you sew.

The worst thing I did whilst cutting off threads was to nick a hole in the side of a rhino, which I was making as a gift for a work colleague. I didn’t have time to make another one so I patched him with “Fray–Stop” but he didn’t look his best!

Placemat Purse 3 - Straw
Find an embroidered straw placemat, some coordinating fabric, a zipper and something for handles, and you are only a few stitches away from making this fun summer purse. Easy to follow and fully illustrated instructions will show you how to make a gusset for your placemat purse and the conversation that follows should answer all of your questions.

Crafty Tip

When measuring the folded placemat to determine the size of your gusset, use several clothes pins to secure the placemat while you measure.

Make Your Own Leash
Your dog will be proud when led on a high fashion leash that you made yourself. Clear step-by-step instructions will have you and your doggie steppin' out in no time. Anna Maria is not your typical crafty blogger - she designs and sells some of the most fun and colorful fabrics around as she shares her joy of sewing, family and friends with the world.

Crafty Tip

When sewing through thick material make sure to use heavy duty sewing machine needles as a general sewing needle will break under the strain and may damage you or your machine.

Beltana's Beads
This site has tutorials on how to make tubular peyote, spiral rope chain, tubular net, loomwork and Cheyenne/Brick stitch. Each technique is presented in the form of a project how to.

Crafty Tip

When using a beading loom, add 3-4 inches to the length of your warp threads to achieve the desired length for the finished piece.
