Crafty Tip

Bridal satin has evolved a lot over the years. What was once a single expensive natural material (silk satin) is now both a natural and man-made material (polyester satin). Which should you choose? You can take the plunge and spend more on silk satin fabric, but poly satin may make you look just as good, and if you spill a little wedding cake on it, it's hand washable!

Crafty Tip

My rotary tool has shown to be one of the most versatile tools I have purchased. It is great to get in tight places and for fine detail work. With the right bits you can work with wood, metal, plastics, ceramics and many other materials. It is important, however, that no matter what brand you choose to purchase it is important that it is compatible with the Dremel line of products.

Crafty Tip

This is one for your imagination, close your eyes and imagine an oblong box, split the box with 2 equal distance horizontal lines, and then split it with 2 equal distance vertical lines. Next time you look in the viewfinder put points of interest on the lines, where they cross put very strong points of interest. You've learned the first rule of photo/painting/drawing composition, easy isn't it :-)

Tip for Aging Paper

Giving paper an aged appearance can be achieved by the application of used tea bags, wet the tea bags and then dab them over the paper. Wrinkle the paper up, screw it up, (carefully though) then stretch it back and let it dry. If it is too wrinkled and you wish it to pass through a printer you can iron it a little between sheets if damp paper or inside a folded pillow case. I have used this method fairly often and it works wonderfully.Don't dip it in the cold tea mixture just dab one side only with a tea bag ( put the tea bag in hot water) and keep layering until you get the look you want. to add age spots used coffee grounds can be dabbed on randomly left to dry then brushed away.

Crafty Tip

If you are new to patchwork and want to get accurate results when piecing, an ideal place to start is with foundation piecing. Use a tear away foundation such as Vilene stitch and tear (or something more basic if it is your first attempt, i.e. plain paper, but use a very short stitch) and you will end up with accurate blocks that match up when you sew them together
