Crafty Tip

If you are making toys for a small baby - make it simple and always use hypo-allergenic material. Don't sew on buttons or glue on glitter - babies put their mouths on everything - you want it to be safe.

Crafty Tip

Hot glue does not work for everything - if you are working on a non-porous surface like tin or plastic, try using "Goop" brand glue. Always experiment with the glue and check what it looks like once it is dried - you don't want to find out the hard way!

Crafty Tip

When using polymer clay, wear disposable gloves. It will prevent the dye from transferring onto your hands (especially red), and also prevent your fingerprints from showing up on the piece you are working on.

Crafty Tip

Store the quilt blocks you are working on in a pizza box. It is a cheap way to keep them flat and organized until you can get back to them.

Crafty Tip

Crimp beads and coated bead stringing wire are a fast and effective way to put together necklaces and bracelets. Sometimes after the piece has been worn many times, the o-ring attaching the stringing wire to the fastener can stretch just enough to let the wire slip through. To prevent this happening, (and make the piece wearable for much longer without the need of repairs,) attach the wire to a soldered o-ring, or use a short piece of wire and make 2 wrapped loops at the ends, one for the fastener, and one for the stringing wire and crimp bead.

Crafty Tip

For those of you who have cut and pieced quilt blocks since childhood, I would recommend exchanging patterns and ideas on how to put together different designs with others. It will help to grow your library of patterns and, hopefully, help you brainstorm on new and innovative patterns. Additionally, trading fabric with others will allow you to get those hard to find materials to make your quilt perfect!

When making cards, if the front of the card it too heavy, try sticking a coin to the back of the card to prevent it falling over.
