Great Fabrics and Textiles Websites

Discount Fabrics

Discount fabrics to create beautiful living spaces, to make stunning clothing and to design wonderful crafts. Does discount fabric mean cheap fabric? Not when it comes from top brands like Covington, Richloom, Swavelle / Mill Creek and Waverly Fabric Mill. At Onlinefabricstore.net, you'll find terrific fabrics at very pleasing savings.

Designing with Swatches Crafty Tip
The secret to designing with textiles? It's in the swatches! Think of a swatch as the physical embodiment of an idea - one with color, form and texture. And then combine that idea (in the form of a swatch) with others, until, five, ten, or fifteen swatches later, you have the visual representation of your BIG IDEA - one which you may never have come to with your ideas alone. That's the power of the swatch. Use it wisely!

Great Fabrics and Patterns

Premium quilting fabrics including rare and unique hand-dyed fabrics from Tanzania, Africa. African fabrics are fun and challenging to work with. Also patterns for ladies, babies, toddlers, preemie layette.

Altering Patterns Crafty Tip
Many patterns have multiple sizes. Use non-woven interfacing such as pellon to trace off the size you want. Pellon is very durable and you can pin on it over and over again. Make sure that you trasfer all markings, notches and fold lines; and label what the pattern is. If it's a vintage apron pattern, print that on each piece of pellon or the number of the pattern (like McCalls 5693). Fold your pellon pattern pieces when done and keep in a large envelope with the original.

Making Outdoor Furniture Cushions Crafty Tip
Want to prolong the life of your outdoor furniture cushions?

After removing the worn fabric covers from your outdoor furniture cushions and pillows, use some inexpensive plastic shower curtains liners to make some waterproof covers. Cover the cushion foam or polyfill with the plastic covers before covering with new fabric. This will prolong the life of your foam and/or polyfill cushions and reduce mildew. Make sure to use thread that is intended for outdoor projects. Add a zipper or velcro to the new fabric covers so that they can be removed for easy cleaning and storage.

Sewing for Children Crafty Tip
When sewing for infants or people with sensitive skin, choose certified organic fabrics that are chemical-free.

Stain Removal Crafty Tip
Have you ever stuck gum to your clothes or a fabric? It seems nearly impossible to completely and safely remove gum from fabric, but there is actually a simple way to remove gum from nearly any kind of fabric. One quick and safe solution to remove gum is acetone, the kind of stuff women use to remove nail polish. A little rub with acetone on any fabric will take gum right off.

Online Fabrics UK: White Lodge Fabric

UK-based online fabric shop, selling only dressmaking fabrics and specialising in dancewear fabrics. Worldwide delivery and free samples available.

Fabric Usage Crafty Tip
Don't scrimp on the fabric quantities stated in your dress pattern or tutorial - if anything buy a little bit extra. If you cut out pattern pieces in a random way (ie you've squeezed all the pieces onto a smaller piece of fabric than is needed) you may find that the finished garment doesn't hang correctly. Or worse you may run out and need to buy fabric from a different dye lot (which will have slight colour variarions), or may be unable to source more fabric leaving your project unfinished!

Ada & Ina Natural Fabrics

Buy 100% natural linen fabrics and linen curtains and cotton curtains & linen upholstery fabrics. Order cotton and linen made to measure curtains & roman blinds.

Measuring For Curtains Crafty Tip
When determining the amount of fabric you will require to make curtains, install the rods before taking your measurements. Depending upon your home's construction, you might not be able to place the rods where you had originally planned.

Sew La La

Sew La La specialises in beautiful cotton dress / craft and interior fabrics at affordable prices along with a range of trimmings to compliment your sewing projects.

Thrifty Sewing Crafty Tip
When sewing for your children, why not integrate some fabric from their favourite outgrown clothes into the project? A little pocket from a dress or a faux appliquéd patch can add so much to a new outfit or toy. Your little one will love it & you will need less new fabric. After all, sewing should be affordable.
